Go to a hairstylist and have them use a mild chemical relaxer. It will stay straight longer than any other method. Then you will need to go about every two or three months to have the root area straightened.

Try using relaxers and don't use a normal brush. Use one of those combs that has the large space between the teeth.

perms would completely destroy ur hair especially if its vulnerable , i know my answer wont satisfy u but trust me this is the truth ,perms r just a no. of chemicals that would ruin ur hair by time , so if u want to leave ur hair loose then i would recommend u the chi ceramic iron straightener as being beautiful is hectic but its worth it hence it does not harm hair entirely . by the way u could be annoyed from ur hair type but if u concentrate in u , surely u would find something special in u so dont worry , hair isnt everything .

well if you dont want to use a strightning iron on it every day then you can go to the salon an hevt it chemically straightned ..it is safe...if you do this then it will be stright an u wont need to iron it at all..the only thing is that you will have to go back to have it chemiclly straightned every 4-5 months

I have kinky curly hair and believe me when I say at times I hate it. I love when I strighten it I think it looks great. However be very careful. If you decide to straighten it at home with a straightener use a ceramic one, and try not to do it all the time it will fry your hair bad. I use VO5 hair serum, it comes in a brown and black tube, it works great . I don't know what type of curly hair you have but be sure to use something designed specifically for you. I am white with kinky kinky curly hair, whatever I use I have to make sure there is no alcohol in it whatsoever. Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.

I, too, have extremely dark, extremely curly hair. Only once in my life has it been straightened and this is how they did it:

They first washed it with a hydrating shampoo then followed up with a protein conditioner and hair serem. I waited 10 minutes then rinsed it all out.

Then, they towel dried my hair before taking a brush and hair dryer to it in order to straighten it out as far as they could.

Then, when I looked like a poodle thrown into a dryer, they took a CERAMIC hair flat iron and straightened it the rest of the way.

Afterwards, they put more serem in my hair to keep it from getting so frizzy.

CAUTION: Straightening your hair will cause it to be EXTREMELY fuzzy!!!!

I used to have long, slightly wavy hair, and when it was cut into layers It looked so much better. It made it seem more curly, and the layers helped it fall into place.

I got it cut like that except with longer bangs so I could push them back when I wanted to and I absolutely love it. It looks great straight but its versatile enough to go back as long as you don't get it cut to short. If you need a good straightener, I suggest a ceramic one. A very light perm. Don't go for the tightest, smallest rollers that they have...but lean towards the larger rollers. That way, you will have some bounce...but not the damage!!

You don't have to stop straightening as long as you use a shine serum like bio-silk to protect it from heat. You could also use a heat-protectant. Garnier Fructis and Herbel Essences make nice ones.

there's the website. I use it and have no problem with heat anymore! It's also got finishing products and such, and i think volumizing and deep conditioning products of it's own. It's really great! I use that and stuff from the herbal essences dangerously striaght line for styling. It's a dream!!

For the dry hair, get a packet of deep coniditiner (you can get a non-dying henna deep conditioner, those work nice) and leave it in for 15 mins.

its really good to stop straightening it i did it and only straightened it if i was going out out if you no what i mean.

every1 comments on how shiny it is now and stuff. the first thing i did was have the dryness at the ends cut off, this helped. go to i good hairstylist and they will give you a good cut so it will dry nice naturallyy.

i don't no if you do this already but wash every other day because then it gives time for your naturall oils to get down the hair.

curly ,wavy hair is so "in" right now but I understand and if you want to straighten it and keep the condition or improve the condition, Id use john freda serum for hair and straightening irons for maximum result. It keeps it silky and managed too

My hair is the same way, when I was little I was born with really curly and frizzy hair. I try to straighten it with a straightening iron it doesn't work, but I use the Easy Frizz products and they even made shampoo and conditioner which can make your hair straight or curly and I also use all they're products and for me it make my hair really straight and healthy. You should try it some time and tell me if it works for you and if it doesn't that's ok because everybody has different hair.

Use a good conditioner for dry hair. You can straighten with a ceramic flat iron daily, or there is a Japanese method that is supposed to permanently straighten the hair (except new growth, of course) But it costs $600.00

Start by using certain shampoos for wanting straight hair. (shampoos dont always give you the straight hair you are looking for) When your hair is wet, take a round barrel brush and blowdry it while brushing it straight...

There are many products that you can get to improve your hair with your without a straightener! (balm, syrum) I have the same problem with my hair! Bedhead has really good products that will keep your hair smooth and keep the frizz out! I forget the name, but its in a tall lime green can/bottle!!! The reason it gets frizzy is because those particular hairs that got cut don't get cut again when you go for a trim. On shorter hair, this may not be such a big deal, but on longer hair it can be.

If you don't color or bleach your hair, and take good care and condition it well, you will minimize the damage.

Also, use lots of product as mentioned above, but that will only help so much.

Complain to your stylist as she should have mentioned this effect to you when you got your trim.

i love it. i usually straighten my hair because its natural curliness is just way to insane. but this calmed it down and wasn't stiff or anything. its about four dollars and you can get it anywhere. i get mine from walmart. so, chances are you'll be able to find it too.

an easy way to manage it is just spraying it in liberally, and then depending on the texture of your hair, scrunching it with your hands or twisting it with your fingers (kind of like your twirling your hair, but tighter). and then just letting it dry on its own. when its done drying, dont brush it or comb it. this will just make it poofy. just run your fingers through it to brush it out and then your ready to go.

the great thing about the Dream Curls spray, is that it has a moisturizer in it too. so it make your hair healthy as it makes it look good.

Look for the same curlwaves, same color even, same shine texture. Even look for a photo of same facial resembelance. (I don't think I spelled that correctly. LOL )

I am a hair stylist and there is nothing harder than to have someone come in and hand me a photo of something that is totally unreasonable. They hand me photos of hair that is nothing like theirs.

Also, to answer your question. My hair is like Debra Messings, on Will and Grace. My hair is blond though. She has layers in her hair, as do I. Julia Roberts usually has layers. If they are put in correctly, it will look great. I wish I could cut your hair right now to show you how great you could look. Find a stylist in your area with curly hair. I have curly hair and layers work best. You should go somewhere really good for the first cut then go somewhere cheaper to keep it trimmed cuz, trust me I have curly hair and looooootttts of people can screw up curly hair cuts. I go to toni and guy and ask for their best stylist. It costs about 50$. You just have to get the right layer cut for curly hair. That way your get more shape. when i tried having my hair one length and long it came out looking...boxy....or somehting. Most people with curly hair have layers you just cant really tell cuz it was done right.

first of all i am not a beutician.. but i have had to tame the "fuzz monster" all my life..

here is what i do...

wash hair with loreal "curl vive" shampoo and cond

brush it while in the shower

make sure u brush out all the tangles then turn off the water

brush it one last time to seperate ur curls and squeeze the water out.. this is the last time u will brush it unitl u are again in the shower.. that is key!!! no more brushing it

put it in a towel for a while.. at least until it is damp not wet

take it down.. dont brush it or blow dry it

use finesse moose.. sorry for the spelling

u can use any level type.. as long at it is finnese.. it is very cheap but sometimes hard to find.. walgreens has it by me

now fill ur palm with moose.. this is for one side

and dab it everywhere, until it is mixed in evenly

scrunch,, dont pull or bruch in any way

do the same for the other side of hair

dont put too much on ur scalp or bangs/side of face

let it dry naturally

i like finnesse because it dries very natural

it dosnt feel like hay... and it dosn build up or make matts in ur hair.. it is a very unique product

u can also wait until ur hair is ALMOST dry and use finesse.. but u gotta scrunch..

sometimes i set it even more using rave pump hair spray.. but soetimes it makes the curls stiff if u use it when ur hair is wet.. this is only to be used to spruce it up.. or when ur hair is almost dry and u need it to curl a little more

I have this same problem. The most beautiful thick corkscrew curls in the world, (when they are wet) I have to load them down with so much goo to keep them in order. NO GEL (makes them crispy crunchy) Stick to a mousse (herbal essences makes one that works good. Also use a leave in condtioner or something like a "balm" or "glue" (for hair product.) Experiment.

Paul Mitchell makes great products for these things. they hava a straightening serum and they also have various products to keep curls - they have sculpting foam. this helps reduce the frizz. I would also suggest that you use good conditioners with protein and moisture complexes. This will help reduce the frizz so that you don't dry your hair out with the foam from constant use.

I definitely suggest ISO (pronounced long i and the word so together) main tamer straightening system. It is a wonderful, natural looking, and natural feeling product I've ever used. I have a friend who has very curly hair, and she got it chemically straightened. I couldn't believe how great it turned out. Her hair is stick straight which is what she wanted, and all she has to do to take care of it is wash it and let it air dry. She didn't get any damage or problems of any kind. I do I do! Pick me! I had the same problem and it doesn't cost a lost of money to fix, but it takes two people and a lot of patience. My hair stylist actually told me about this when I didn't want to pay for it to be professionally done. Anyway, it works great and not just thin hair. I did my friends' hair and she had REALLY thick and frizzy hair. Go to Wal mart and by any perm. It doesn't to be a straightening perm either, you can get a spiral perm or whatever. Anyway, do what the directions say on the perm, but instead of putting the rollers in your hair, use a fine toothed comb and comb your hair striaght over and over and over until the time limit on the perm is up. Don't let any waves or kinks get into your hair during this step. Then rinse and follow the rest of the instructions on the perm. You may have to repeat this process a few days later depending on how well your "perm" took, but it only takes an hour or so. Bingo, your hair is 95% straight at least. All it takes is five min. on a blow dryer. My stylist said it is less damaging to do this one or two times every couple of months then to use a flat iron on it all the time.

Just flat iron it, I got a relaxer once, %26amp; it made my hair break off %26amp; rough at the ends. My auntie didn't leave it in long enough to get it shraight. So, there was no point at that.

It can change your hair permently, it can give you bold spots, so if you deside to get 1, make sure it's the right type for your hair, %26amp; get some1 who knows what they're doing to do your hair.

i straightened my hair recently and it looks great. u have to care it a little differently than u care ur natural hair tho. but it only damages ur hair if u don't care ur hair properly. i use motions, but i hear dark and lovely is good too. but relaxing ur hair is almost permanent. if ur not completely sure, u could straighten it temporarily(ask ur hairdresser about this) and if u like it after about a month, then go ahead and relax it. i love having straight hair. it's much easier to style it.

With the iron try, lock by lock starting from four inch from the root to the end, waving the hair each four inches by twirling it up or down it doesn't matter. What matters is that it gets wavy.

You need a great iron to do so. If you have a curl iron then its easier just roll a lock around the iron wait a few seconds and take out the iron.

I have curly hair also and I can wear it straight too. I use Redken curl perfection. If that's too expensive try Thermosilk mousse. You just put about 3 pumps in your hand and make sure you put it evenly into your hair while wet. Then scrunch a little. Then if you have a diffuser that's the best, but if not then flip your head upside down and scrunch small chunks of hair and put the blow dryer inside that chunk of hair then squeeze it. Let it go. Then do it again all over until your hair is dry. Doing it upside down gives you volume. Try that and see if it works.

But if you just do the Garnier products that works well too. But I gotta say the type of shampoo matters too. Try different ones. I have used Tresemee, Garnier, and Herbal Esseces....they all do the job and they add a nice scent that will leave people saying ummm....you smell good as they stroll by.

Loose french braids always look good on curly hair.

You can also do a messy bun, that looks good with curls.

If you want to wear it down, style it with mousse or gel. I use Garnier Fructis Curl Construct Mousse and then John Frieda Frizz Ease secret weapon. Works well.

also try half up/half down. May need to do a little taming down there, too.

half buns work well for me, too. That's when you make a little loop on the top and let it hang.

Clips always look good, too. like butterfly or crocodile (that's what they're called) But get bigger ones, you'll need them.

1) dove shampoo and conditioner

2) Matrix mousse (sold in most salons) all over the bottom and body of hair to make sure it doesn't frizz up, a little also where you think will frizz the most

3)Herbal essences spray all over to not miss any spots.

4)let air dry or use a diffuser attached to your blower (head upside down), while scrunching it up. If only air dried, after it's fully dry, scrunch it up so it doesn't feel dry.

I also have extremely curly hair. I feel your pain. Unfortunately, though, there is not alot you can do. I know a girl who got it chemically straightened, and it was kind of frizzy. If you want to use a straightening iron, I suggest a 100% ceramic one. They're kind of expensive, but they work better then any other ones.

Man, would I love to switch with you!! I'm fourteen, white, and I have weird hair. It has lots of body, but it is neither straight nor curly. I wish I had really curly hair. But, I love my hair anyway.

Anyway, the straighten I use is by Remington called Wet2Straight. Your hair doesn't have to be wet to use it, but it even works great on wet hair. You can change the settings so that the heat is perfect for your hair type, which I think it great because you are always damaging your hair with heat. And it is fat, so that it works on more uncontrollable hair. And after wards spray some stronger hair spray on it.

But, in the end I really just give up on my hair. Whatever I do to it, it does its own thing anyway. But, when you really want to dress up or look different, that is the time to straighten it. Don't straighten it every day.

Maybe try some cute up-dos with it, or get it cut differently.

Use a curling shampoo and conditioner, then what I use is a mixture of a couple pumps of john freidas extra strength hair serum and pantenes curling creme when its damp, then I put in a little mouse and blow dry on low. It sounds like a lot, but really its not.

Also, to answer your question. My hair is like Debra Messings, on Will and Grace. My hair is blond though. She has layers in her hair, as do I. Julia Roberts usually has layers. If they are put in correctly, it will look great. I wish I could cut your hair right now to show you how great you could look. Find a stylist in your area with curly hair. I have curly hair and layers work best. You should go somewhere really good for the first cut then go somewhere cheaper to keep it trimmed cuz, trust me I have curly hair and looooootttts of people can screw up curly hair cuts. I go to toni and guy and ask for their best stylist. It costs about 50$. You just have to get the right layer cut for curly hair. That way your get more shape. when i tried having my hair one length and long it came out looking...boxy....or somehting. Most people with curly hair have layers you just cant really tell cuz it was done right.

It permanently changes your hair until it grows out. It depends on the salon you go to for the best price. I definitely suggest ISO (pronounced long i and the word so together) main tamer straightening system. It is a wonderful, natural looking, and natural feeling product I've ever used. It worked well for me and it's permanent until your natural hair grow back. I have a friend who has very curly hair, and she got it chemically straightened. I couldn't believe how great it turned out. Her hair is stick straight which is what she wanted, and all she has to do to take care of it is wash it and let it air dry. She didn't get any damage or problems of any kind. I do I do! Pick me! I had the same problem and it doesn't cost a lost of money to fix, but it takes two people and a lot of patience. My hair stylist actually told me about this when I didn't want to pay for it to be professionally done. Anyway, it works great and not just thin hair. I did my friends' hair and she had REALLY thick and frizzy hair. Go to Wal mart and by any perm. It doesn't to be a straightening perm either, you can get a spiral perm or whatever. Anyway, do what the directions say on the perm, but instead of putting the rollers in your hair, use a fine toothed comb and comb your hair striaght over and over and over until the time limit on the perm is up. Don't let any waves or kinks get into your hair during this step. Then rinse and follow the rest of the instructions on the perm. You may have to repeat this process a few days later depending on how well your "perm" took, but it only takes an hour or so. Bingo, your hair is 95% straight at least. All it takes is five min. on a blow dryer. My stylist said it is less damaging to do this one or two times every couple of months then to use a flat iron on it all the time.

It can change your hair permently, it can give you bold spots, so if you deside to get 1, make sure it's the right type for your hair, %26amp; get some1 who knows what they're doing to do your hair.

i straightened my hair recently and it looks great. u have to care it a little differently than u care ur natural hair tho. but it only damages ur hair if u don't care ur hair properly. i use motions, but i hear dark and lovely is good too. but relaxing ur hair is almost permanent. if ur not completely sure, u could straighten it temporarily(ask ur hairdresser about this) and if u like it after about a month, then go ahead and relax it. i love having straight hair. it's much easier to style it.

I have curly hair too, and I have the same issue. Usually what I do is after I have a shower, I just use a curl enhancing gel or mousse (I like Fructis Psshht Gel), then flip my head upside down and scrunch. Then I flip my head right side up and scrunch again. Then I spray with a leave-in conditioner and let it air dry. It gives you a really cute rolled-out-of-bed look and it stays out of the way.

Hiya, I understand what you mean cos I have curly hair as well, I dont use any gel but I use hair food, it keeps it shiny and moist and soft too. Also, try to get hair oil, I use a product called Vatika, its to be used once in a week, it makes your hair very soft and easy to comb. Another thing I started doing is when I wash my hair, I use the shampoo as normal, but when it comes to conditioning, I leave it on my hair for at least 10 to 15 minutes and it does help, I notice that my hair stays soft and shinny and it does not gets frizzy eventhough it is very curly. I use Herbal Essences' "Dangerously Straight" shampoo. It works pretty well... it doesn't make it mega-straight but it makes it easier to control and less frizzy.

Garnier fructis style have something called soft curl creme, I use it along with Volumax gel and is awsome, I love it!

It works wonders.

Girl, you've hit my specialty! I have crazy curly hair, and I have been through 22 years of the ringer with it.

This routine will set you up for perfect curly hair.

1. shampoo just your scalp, not your entire head of hair.

2. Use your fingers to comb, or get a comb with ridiculously wide teeth. This keeps frizz down.

3. Use a really rich leave in conditioner in a small amount instead of a gel or serum. These typically have lots of silicone or alcohol in it, and really f curly hair up.

I use a violet shampoo for my blond hair, but anything sans alcohol for dry hair will work

My conditioner is by loreal proffesional, it's called neofibrine mask. I get it from my stylist, but you can get it from the internet. Any rich conditioner will do. It won't dry cruchy, and your curls will form much better.,

Try smoothing milk by garnier frutis. It leaves my hair frizz free and doesn't weight your hair down like gel and leaves it nice and soft unlike hairspray

I know how you feel! I have thick, curly hair and I have tried a million products. Try Paul Mitchell's Super Skinny Serum, ansd also use sport gel in your hair if you want to use a gel one day. But go for the cheaper brands because they work a lot better than the others. I tried the expensive one's first and they don't work as well. Also, I use something called Shine Drops that you can buy at almost any beauty salon. Just ask a hairdresser about it.

I have the same problem. Unfortunately everytime I find something that seems to work it seems to magically stop working shortly thereafter. Besides, I have a friend who has similar hair (or seems to) and products I use don't work in her hair (and visa versa). I recently used a REALLY cheap gel called La Bella and it didn't make my hair hard or crunchy but did take away the frizz. I have also used some creams or serums in the past that worked pretty well but tend to be quite expensive and I seem to go through them very quickly. There is also a serum called Potion 9 that worked pretty well. Best of luck. If you find any other products that work please let me know!! =)

i have curly hair and this is what i do...

After washing i comb out

then i scrunch it and just blow dry the roots...

Then i just use a smidgen of gel and wet my hands

( if my hair is a little frizzy ) and then just continue scrunching ...

Most likely you are using too much gel thats why your hair looks/feels hard.

Just use a regular gel ..i have been using pantene...You dont really need alot. My hair turns out soft and curly...

I am a hairstylist and have many clients with the same curly hair woes! My favorite product for curls is Redkin's "Ringlet", ITS AMAZING! its a curl lotion instead of a gel or spray. So it just adds shine and definition to your curls with out the stiff feel. It smells great and actually nourishes your curls. It runs about 15 bucks a bottle, but a little lasts you a long while (if used correctly, it should last 6 months)
